Toastmasters Speaking Elephants Meeting- October 18th

Happy birthday to you,

Happy birthday to you,

Happy birthday dear Toastmasters

Happy birthday to you!

The Tuesday meeting had many excellent qualities and unexpected turns of events. The atmosphere was remarkable, with plenty of goofy one-liners of the Toastmaster of the day, Piotr Pióro, who did a perfect job running the meeting to commemorate the 87th birthday of Toastmasters International.

Our septuagenarian ( as we could learn from our grammarian, Rafał Komorowski– a person who is 70 years old or between the ages of 70 and 80) is doing very well. Every day Toastmasters, all around the world, empowers people to achieve their full potential, realize their dreams, improve their communication and leadership skills, and what is most important, find the courage to change.

Those in the meeting, could not escape the impression that the team of Jarek Piotrowski, the general evaluator of the meeting and our Toastmaster, Piotr, reminded them of the best buddy cop team ever in Tango & Cash- a 1980’s Hollywood blockbuster. One, a by-the-books officer who wears nice suits, the other, a wild card who plays by his own rules.

We listened to three speeches. Helena Pryłowska advanced to her 2nd CC project – Organize Your Speech, with the speech titled “Style & Fashion”. Helena made us realize what an important role in our lives plays the way we look.

Justyna Lewandowska in her 2nd CC project, titled “Brain’s Gender” told us of how sex differences in the brain are sexy, and why men can’t walk and chew gum at the same time:)

Anatolii Mykolenko gave us a great training session in “Psychological Aikido”. Anatolii taught us in a funny way how to defend ourselves against a psychological attack. Indeed, his speech was an eye opener. It looks that the best defense is, in fact, to surrender, hmm? I hope I got it right.

Adam Jeziorski, our Table Topics Master, took us on a bumpy journey into the chambers of the court. His exceptional idea to turn that part of the meeting into a role play with magistrates court hearings was awesome. We listened to Police Prosecutor’s allegations, and Defence Lawyer providing information aimed at minimising the penalty. It was both a great opportunity to think on your feet and learn to impersonate at the same time.
